Why fly in an event like this?

The purpose of the event is to maximize the concentration of aircraft on the frequency and in the air, and to have a great time in the process.

It’s often the case on PE that pilots are spread out across several frequencies resulting in a case where pilots all hear the approach controller, but don’t actually hear each other. The event will increase the likelihood that you’ll be seeing and hearing traffic if you participate at the published airports fairly close to the published times since so many pilots will be on the same frequency.
